When I was a little, little kid my parents and I used to go to this Chinese Restaurant near our house. I think the name of it was Golden Seas or something like that. This was back in the day when smoking was allowed in restaurants. When we would walk in the owner knew us and would immediately say, "no smoke, no smoke". He would then seat us in the no smoking section and we would go about our dinner. Thinking back its funny that the no smoking section was right next to the smoking section. There was no seperate room or wall dividing the two, it was just one big open area. I remember that stale, gross cigarette smell like it was yesterday. I HATED to smell that crap and I still do.As I talk to the kids about how nasty smoking is, I always say, "smoking is the grossest thing you could ever do." I really believe that, it makes me want to vomit just to think of it. Anyway, the other day Dylan came home from school and told me that one of his friends in his class told him he can't wait to grow up so he can be old enough to smoke. What? I couldn't believe what I was hearing. His big aspiration in life is to be able to smoke? How sad is that? It made me start to wonder if I am doing enough to teach the kids how awful that and other habits can be. I have to say I'm going to step up my Word of Wisdom speak around the house. If I don't teach them, who will? Hopefully not their fellow 3rd grader...

Oh my gosh! That makes me crazy!! I love the fact that whenever my kids see someone smoking in their cars, on the street, whatever, THEY tell me how bad that is for you, and that they are ruining their insides, etc. etc. Hopefully they will always think like that.
Speaking of that GREAT chinese restaurant, they knew us there too! Maybe we hung out in the no-smoking section together. I remember how yummy I thought it was! If we went there now, I bet we would throw up.
Just let him sit next to some loser smoking on the street for a minute and he'll probably get turned off to it. Make sure it's a loser though. You'd hate to set him next to someone who looked cool doing it, that might backfire.
