A-W-E-S-O-M-E

Today Dylan was a proud little boy. He has been doing really well at school, and awhile ago I had told him that if he continued to get 100% on his spelling tests he could pick out whatever he wanted as a prize. Well today he got his final spelling test back, he got 100%. That means he got 100% on every test this year. We headed straight from school to the shoe store (Ossine in West Jordan has the best deals), because surprise, surprise, he has an obsession with shoes- and that is what he picked for his prize. I had to take a picture to document the moment. He is as proud as punch. He has his 1st grade program tomorrow so he gets to wear brand spankin' new shoes. Oh the joy one gets from new shoes!
On another note, I have some random happenings I wanted to remember:
*On Sunday after church I was asking the kids how they enjoyed primary and what they learned. I then asked, "who enjoyed Sacrament meeting?" to which Abbie responded very quickly, "not me, you have to be quiet!"
*Also on Sunday I was in a big hurry to get to church on time (big surprise). Jesse was already there because he went to choir practice and he stayed to get us a good seat. I was in such a hurry, I got the kids and all the bags in the car, opened the garage door and backed out before it had opened all the way. Oops. All the sudden I hear a bang and I realized how dumb I was. I just hope the neighbors weren't watching out their window-who does that?
*The kids are becoming slightly obsessed with listening to my ipod. It's okay because I don't have any hard core rap or anything, just some random music that covers a broad spectrum. Well, Dylan has picked out a song that he listens to over and over and Jesse is none too pleased. It is Alice Cooper's "Schools out for Summer", I have to say I really like that song, but don't really want Dylan singing it in school or anything. Especially the part that goes, "schools been blown to pieces!" That would not go over well in this day and age. Abbie's favorite song to sing to is Garth Brooks "Friends in Low Places". This is odd because I actually hate country music, but find this song delightful. I then realize she is singing about whiskey and beer and probably should put an end to that fun song too. Moral to this story is it's time to hide the ipod.

Isn't it funny how much you don't hear in a song until you have your small children singing it. It's always enlightening to hear your 5 year old singing about her "bootie".

Nice shoes!
There are so many songs that we like and our kids shouldn't. At Jane's dance recital, we were noting how many of the songs were so inappropriate for little girls to be dancing to. It takes that kind of perspective before we even notice.
